McKesson Specialty is now Walgreens Specialty

Recently you may have heard that Walgreens purchased McKesson Specialty Pharmacy. As part of this purchase, McKesson Specialty Pharmacy will undergo a name change and will become a part of Walgreens Specialty Pharmacy.
This name change transition from Mckesson Specialty to Walgreens Specialty Pharmacy is happening at this time and should be completed by March 8, 2009. After March 8, 2009 - members getting specialty medications from Walgreens Specialty will notice that their prescriptions now have “Medmark, a Walgreens Specialty Pharmacy” listed as the filling pharmacy.
Walgreens Specialty is our preferred pharmacy for the distribution and medication management services of high cost injectables and specialty medications. Physicians may also order these medications, either for delivery to their office (for office administered injectables) or the patient (for self-administered medications).

Walgreens Specialty provides national pharmacy services, focusing on specialty and injectable medications and therapy for patients with complex disease states, such as multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis and hepatitis C.
Benefits of the program include:
- Supplies for injecting the medication are included, such as needles/syringes,
alcohol swabs, and sharps containers, at no additional cost.
- 24-hour patient access to pharmacists and nurses for medication counseling.
- Coordination of patient’s pharmacy and medical benefits.
- Outbound calls for refill coordination.
- Convenience –delivery in unmarked packaging to assure privacy.
Our partnership with Walgreens Specialty may offer you financial benefits
as well. If you pay coinsurance (a percentage of the total prescription
cost), you will likely have a lower out-of-pocket cost. Also, if you have
a maximum yearly and/or lifetime benefit, your coverage may extend even
longer. If you have a copayment (a specific dollar amount for each
prescription), it is the same as what you currently pay at your local
pharmacy and will be delivered to your home or office.
