McKesson Specialty is now Walgreens Specialty

Recently you may have heard that Walgreens purchased McKesson Specialty Pharmacy. As part of this purchase, McKesson Specialty Pharmacy will undergo a name change and will become a part of Walgreens Specialty Pharmacy.
This name change transition from Mckesson Specialty to Walgreens Specialty Pharmacy is happening at this time and should be completed by March 8, 2009. After March 8, 2009 - members getting specialty medications from Walgreens Specialty will notice that their prescriptions now have “Medmark, a Walgreens Specialty Pharmacy” listed as the filling pharmacy.
Walgreens Specialty is the preferred pharmacy for the distribution and medication management services of high cost injectables and specialty medications.
Walgreens Specialty is a JCAHO-accredited specialty pharmacy provider, currently servicing the specialty and injectable needs of more than 90 million managed care members nationwide. Due to this collaboration, our injectable delivery program eliminates the need for physicians to stock office-administered medications and provides convenience and added clinical support for you and your patients.

Walgreens Specialty can save your patients money
If your patients pay coinsurance (a percentage of the total prescription cost), they will likely have lower out-of-pocket costs. Also, if they have a maximum yearly and/or lifetime benefit, their coverage may extend even longer. If they have a copayment, it is the same as what they would pay at their local pharmacy.
Medications are limited to a month supply or are based on the member’s specific pharmacy or medical benefit.
If you have any additional questions about our specialty and injectable delivery program, please call either Walgreens Specialty at 1 (888) 347-3416 or your Provider Relations representative.
