Here’s how the program works
Patients ask you to change their current prescription to the higher, double-strength tablet so that when they split the tablet in half, they receive the necessary daily dosage/strength they need to take each day (i.e. program applies to once daily dosing).

They pay only one copay for a two-month supply of medication, since they will be splitting the tablets in half. This may save your patients up to six copays per year!

The Half-Tablet Program is not applicable to prescriptions filled under the mail-order benefit or for Medicare Part D beneficiaries.

Patients save both time and money
Some medications come in different strengths that are all similarly priced. The Half-Tablet Program allows your patients to split the higher-strength tablets listed above in half, doubling their supply and saving money on copays. Another advantage is that they make only one trip to the pharmacy every other month. The Half-Tablet Program is available at retail pharmacies only, for double-strength quantities of the specified products (in a 60- to 68-day equivalent supply), based on the prescription benefit.

Tablet splitters at no cost
When your patients participate in our Half-Tablet Program, we'll cover the cost of one tablet splitter each year. Patients need to ask the pharmacist to submit the cost of the tablet splitter as a prescription claim. We will then reimburse the pharmacy and the patient’s copay will be $0.
