PhysicianRxSM

We developed educational summaries called PhysicianRx to help you better understand our evidence-based medication choices. These summaries also offer references that explain how we formed our conclusions, information about generic medications and other money-saving tips for your patients.
The Delfini Group™, LLC, are leaders in evidence and value-based solutions in health care. Regarding RegenceRx they have stated that they “know of no group today…that is doing a finer job applying evidence-based medicine principles.” Read more about The Delfini Group and the RegenceRx process.
In addition to PhysicianRx summaries, we also offer executive summaries from our Therapeutic Class Review process. These reviews are used by our Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee in making formulary decisions. Therapeutic Class ReviewsSM include:
- Available therapeutic alternatives
- Reason for the review

Below are some PhysicianRx summaries for several high profile therapeutic classes:
- Allergic Rhinitis – When treating allergic rhinitis, nasal allergy sprays produce greater relief from allergy symptoms than oral antihistamines or leukotriene inhibitors. Comparative monthly costs of the various options are included.
- Antibiotics (Ketolides) – The risk of drug interactions and an unfavorable safety profile outweigh the benefits for Ketek®, when there are other similarly effective antibiotic options available.
- NSAIDs – There are many options within this category that vary significantly in cost, but have similar benefits. Newer, more costly products like Celebrex®, while heavily advertised are equally effective treatments for pain and/or inflammation, have similar safety risks and provide no value over generic NSAIDs.
- Prescription Samples - Many doctors’ offices receive free brand-name samples that are then provided to patients. These samples can often cost patients more money and more problems with their prescriptions in the long run.
- Sedative-Hypnotics – While all sedative-hypnotic medications have benefit for short-term treatment, the underlying cause needs to be addressed and treated. Comparative trials have not demonstrated a clear benefit for the newer brands over short-acting benzodiazepines.
- Statins – Lovastatin provides the best option when moderate LDL-C lowering less than 40% is needed; Crestor® and Vytorin® provide the best value for LDL-C lowering greater than 40%.
- Synagis - Information about Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) infection and Synagis.
